Casio pianos have not had the popularity of Yamaha pianos in the past because Casio is not a piano company, they are a computer company that makes digital pianos. However, Casio is well known for making great products including calculators, watches, digital cameras, and of course music keyboards…and millions of them. Casio has produced the Celviano line of digital pianos for 30 years so they definitely have a long history and know what they are doing. So for the first time in the Casio Celviano piano history, Casio has finally jumped ahead of Yamaha in the “under $2000 price range” with the Casio AP620 piano.

After comparing every major brand and their models in similar price ranges, it seems like time & time again people are ordering these new Casio pianos for their kids, for themselves, to take traditional piano lessons on, to just have musical fun, and they can’t believe what a bargain they are for such a high quality piano.

So if you thought that you had to have the more popular digital piano brands like Roland, Yamaha, or Kawai at much higher prices to get a satisfying digital piano playing experience, then think again. This year, the Casio Celviano pianos seem to be the clear winner world wide for a furniture style digital piano (for the under $2000 price range) based on their recent piano entries into the market. And it’s also clear from testimonials I am receiving from so many owners of these pianos that this is the case. It’s not just me saying how impressed I am with these new Casio pianos anymore, but it’s so many families who own them along with their friends, piano teachers, and other musicians.

As a piano teacher and musician myself of many years, I judge a piano by it’s tone, touch, features and looks, and not just by it’s name. Then I look at the piano manufacturer to see if they can stand behind that product and have a good track record in the digital technology world, and Casio meets that criteria. As I have stated many times here on my blog, I love to play other good brands of digital pianos and I own a few of them, but if you are looking for a good piano playing experience and want to spend a lot less money, then do yourself a favor and seriously consider ordering the Casio AP620. People have told me how impressed they were with the actual shipping of the piano as well, the way the box was professionally packaged and how easy the piano was to assemble. They liked every aspect of the piano from its simple layout to its easy to understand instructions. And beyond that, the piano has the new Class Compliant CoreMIDI software built in so that it can be connected to the new Apple iPad with just a camera connection adapter on the iPad to a standard USB cable from the piano. You can access lots of new music software on the iPad for at home interactive visual piano lessons, full production studio recording, and fun interactive composing and notation software. Very impressive. That’s something the Yamaha Arius YDP digital pianos cannot do.
